Fears and Phobias

Phobias are extremely common and are an irrational and excessive fear of a situation, object or place, provoking anxiety or avoidance. They can develop in childhood or as an adult.

When a person thinks about or is in the presence of the item, place or situation, it can bring about symptoms of anxiety and panic, such as; rapid heart rate, nausea, and palpitations.

It is common for people to avoid or try to escape their phobia to avoid the symptoms. Unfortunately, avoidance compounds the belief that they are in danger in the presence of the phobic situation, place or item and, as such, increases the phobic response.

Hypnotherapy and EMDR are gentle and effective treatments that help people overcome their phobia, helping them live life to the full. They can usually be treated in a few sessions.
